PTSD is a common consequence of domestic violence, characterized by intrusive memories, flashbacks, and nightmares related to the abuse. You can impact the life of a domestic violence survivor or a child who witnessed domestic violence by donating to CAWC today or by supporting our work in other ways. Our mission to end child abuse in conjunction with domestic violence is rooted in education, service, and advocacy. We are calling for the Government to make the mental health of survivors, particularly women and children, a key priority and focus of the soon to be launched Mental Health and VAWG Strategies. Further, domestic abuse costs the UK economy billions annually – with one in five women taking time off work because of domestic abuse and nine in ten saying it affects their performance at work.

As part of its community outreach, the centre launched the ‘Ahwal’ awareness campaign, a series of short visual episodes aimed at reshaping public perceptions of women affected by violence and addressing social challenges surrounding family relationships. Elements of psychological abuse include – but are not limited to – causing fear by intimidation; threatening physical harm to self, partner, children, or partner’s family or friends; destruction of pets and property; and forcing isolation from family, friends, or school and/or work. Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological, or technological actions or threats of actions or other patterns of coercive behavior that influence another person within an intimate partner relationship.
